2015 RT Convention Preview: A Teen Day Guide to Parent-Kid Bonding

There’s nothing quite as special as spending time with a loved one, and if you’re the parent of a teen, you know getting quality one-on-one time with your child isn’t always easy. Whether you’re a mother or father looking to spend time with your daughter or son, if your kid is a bookworm, Teen Day at the RT Booklovers Convention in Dallas, TX, is for you. Below are five reasons why this event on Saturday, May 16, can’t be missed.

Readers meet bestselling author Colleen Houck

Reason #1: The Price Cannot Be Beat

We know entertainment can be costly, but for less than the cost of two movie tickets and a large popcorn, one young reader (18 or under) and their parent or chaperone can get nine hours of mixing and mingling with their favorite authors and fellow readers. Registration is only $30 and the event lasts from 11:00 a.m. until 7:45 p.m.

Reason #2: The Experience

The experience. Teen Day isn’t just one event, it’s an entire day made up of many fun activities for readers and authors. The day kicks off at 11:00 a.m. with our Giant Book Fair, where more than 100 different YA authors will be signing in YA Alley, a designated section of the book fair for young adult authors. Then, from 2 to 3 p.m., there’s a Fierce Reads pizza party, complete with photobooth (we don’t know about you, but we love photo booths). Then, from 3:00 until 5:45 p.m. readers can enjoy an assortment of workshops and panels, ranging from YA Family Fued to writing tips and tricks. Then it’s time for the Teen Day Party! Wahoo! Attending teens get amazing gift bags packed with books, and entrance to the Swag Room! (A Swag Room, people. We know.)

Reason #3: The Authors

We mentioned the 100-plus authors, right? Several of the genre’s biggest names will be there, including Jennifer L. Armentrout, Stephanie Perkins, Meg Cabot, Susan Ee, Richelle Mead, Kiera Cass, Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl, Lauren Oliver, Melissa Marr and many, many more. Authors will be available for photos, autographs, hugs and high fives!

Reason #4: The Tears

We’re talking good tears, people. The kind that flow when you’re meeting your hero and you just can’t contain your emotions. It’s been known to happen to a teen or two at Teen Day, and it’s honestly one of the most touching things we’ve seen during the RT Booklovers Convention. Teen Day readers are just so excited to be meeting so many of the authors they love, and it definitely shows. Sniff!

Reason #5: You’ll Have Fun, Too

Let’s be real here, YA isn’t just for teens. Maybe you’ve picked up one of your child’s books, wondering what exactly they were reading, and got hooked yourself. Or maybe you’ve always been a YA reader. Either way, if you’re a fan, you’ll get just as much enjoyment out of the event as your child, and who better to share it with?

Are you ready? Teen Day tickets are available in advance or at the door. You can also preview the Teen Day event booklet below.
