2016 RT Convention Outfits: Kristin

The RT Booklover’s Convention is only a few weeks away! Which means if you’re planning on attending the full week of books, babes (yes, we mean you) and shenanigans, you’ve got some packing to do! With a full schedule of panels, workshops, events — and, of course, parties, one outfit a day may not cut it. So bust out those extra large suitcases, because the RT staff is bringing you their dream outfits for all the awesomeness on the agenda. We’re starting off this series up with outfits by our Website Coordinator Kristin Wise.

Viva La Historical Costume

Viva La Historical — Wednesday, April 13, from 7 – 8:30 pm

I am a sucker for all things historical. Give me a corset, add on more than my body weight in fabric and I say you’ve got yourself an outfit! (If you also want to toss in a hot Duke I’ll be your best friend!). That incredible Georgian gown is handmade by a company in the UK- so it’s both beautiful and authentic! As it turns out, Manolo Blahnik, my personal favorite brand to splurge on, just so happens to make a cute and comfortable alternative to the tiny slippers Marie Antoinette used to wear- who knew? Finally, I’ve finished the outfit off with a gorgeous beaded purse. It’s exactly what I need to hold my dance card!

A Night With The Bad Boy Costume

A Night With The Bad Boy — Thursday, April 14, from 10:15 – 11:45 pm

Gwen Stefani poses a very important question, “Why do the good girls always want the bad boys?” Girl, if only we knew! I can’t tell you what exactly it is about a bad boy that makes me want to pull up his henley and run my hands over his washboard abs, but it’s an impulse I haven’t quite been able to curb. Every good girl likes to take a walk on the wild side and her outfit should reflect that! Though wholly impractical in real life, distressed jeans are a must for your night with the bad boy. Add a killer crimson crop top (because he isn’t the only one with awesome abs, m’kay?) and a faux leather jacket to complete the look. Platform, spiked-heel motorcycle boots serve a dual purpose: they are super sexy and will bring you to perfect bad boy kissing height. Finish it all off with a quick swipe of some Kat Von D lipstick, which has rich pigments and a creamy texture that will last through even your most intense bad boy make-out session!

RT Awards Outfit

2015 Reviewers Choice Awards and the Career Achievement Awards – Friday, April 15, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Admit it. We’ve all had red carpet fantasies. Perhaps you’ve sashayed in front of photographers on Leonardo DiCaprio’s arm, maybe you went stag and made a big scene arriving in an egg ala Lady Gaga. Well we’ve got our own version of the Oscars at RT and it is your opportunity to swan amongst the glitterati! I plan to walk into the room dripping in gold, because, why not? I absolutely love this gold gown with art-deco design and the simple gold pumps perfectly complement the look! Top it off with a simple gold satin evening bag and a natural, pink lipstick to complete the look.

Cirque du Punk Costume

Cirque du Punk — Friday, April 15, from 9:30 pm – 12:00 am

In my mind, steampunk is basically what happens when a Victorian historical and a futuristic fantasy have a baby. It’s a fun opportunity to play with textures and pair flirty, flowy skirts with sexy, leather corsets. Cirque du Punk is the steam/diesel/cyber-punk circus you didn’t know was missing from your life. There will be all sorts of awesome performers, but it’s aways more fun to get in on the action! My steampunk ensemble pairs a flouncy lace skirt with a brocade, leather-clad corset I am obsessed with. The platform boots are not only super sexy, but a more comfortable alternative to stilettos, making it easier for you to party all night.
