Listen, we at RT HQ get a lot of press releases. This is not a humble brag, this is just an acknowledgement of the sad state of our inboxes. So much email. But today, this very afternoon, at 1:12 pm, we got a press release that made us sit up in our desk chairs and yell, “OH SNAP!” Know why? Because John Green wrote a new book and it’s coming out in October.
That’s right, John Green, who recently made everyone you know cry thanks to his amazing YA The Fault in Our Stars (book or movie, pick your poison). John Green, whom we must tell you, we loved way back in 2005 when Looking for Alaska came out. John Green, who hasn’t published a book in almost six years.
The new book, Turtles All the Way Down, will be out on October 10. It’s the story of sixteen-year-old Aza Holmes, a young woman searching for a fugitive billionaire while also dealing with her mental illness. There’s also a cash reward, lifelong friendship, reunions, fan fiction and more.
“I’ve been working on Turtles All the Way Down for years, and I’m so excited to share it with readers this October,” Green said via the press release that we have now read 18 times searching for clues. “This is my first attempt to write directly about the kind of mental illness that has affected my life since childhood, so while the story is fictional, it is also quite personal.”
The book will have a mega rollout, with a first print run of 1.5 million copies, which, in non-publishing speak is: A HELLUVALOT. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more, and you know where to find us October 10. Waiting outside our favorite bookstore until it opens. That’s where.
