Austin Butler Joins Shannara

MTV’s adaptation of Terry Brooks’s Shannara series has cast its lead! Former The Carrie Diaries star Austin Butler has signed on to play Wil Ohmsford, the half-elf protagonist who sets out on an epic quest. The series, which will be called Shannara and begin with the second book in the series, was given a 10-episode order from MTV earlier this summer. We’re hoping this show ends up being our post-Lord of the Rings obsession!

Nolan May Tackle Ready Player One

Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One has quickly become a reader favorite, so it’s no surprise Hollywood has taken notice of this sci-fi tale set in 2044. Warner Bros. has reportedly offered the big-screen adaptation to director Christopher Nolan, who has helmed major blockbusters such as Batman Begins, Inception and Interstellar. The Magicians Finds Its Leads

SyFy’s upcoming adaptation of Lev Grossman’s bestseller The Magicians has found its two leads in Jason Ralph and Sosie Bacon, who will play Quentin and Alice, respectively. Additionally, Summer Bishil joining the series as Margo Hanson, an adept student at the Brakebill’s Academy.

Tom Hanks joins The Circle

David Eggers’s novel, The Circle, is working its way to theaters everywhere with Tom Hanks attached as the lead. The novel is a thriller that focuses on privacy and safety in a digital age where personal data is collected and utilized in various manners. The script was penned by James Ponsoldt, who will also direct, and Hanks is also set to produce. Learn more over at Deadline.

Country Club Wives May Be Your New Guilty Pleasure

Insight Productions have obtained television rights to Sandra Gurvis’s Country Club Wives. This tale of drama, sex and murder is sure to become our new obsession if and when it hits our TVs, so we’re keeping fingers crossed!
