We had a downright unforgettable Friday evening at the RT Booklovers Convention. By day we explored interesting workshops and panels, but by night we donned on our finest Oscar-worthy attire to walk the red carpet at the RT Reviewer’s Choice Awards. Of course, every awards ceremony needs a wild after-party and our Cirque du Punk hosts certainly delivered, providing a spectacle that we won’t soon forget.
Our evening began at the 2016 RT Reviewers’ Choice Career Achievement Awards hosted by Beth Ciotta and Mark Johnson.
Eloisa James served as keynote speaker, delivering an entertaining and inspiring speech that served as the perfect introduction to the evening ahead.
We honored each of our 2015 Seal of Excellence Winners before officialy crowning Julie Murphy’s Dumplin’ the RT Book of the Year.
When Alisha Rai accepted the RT Reviewer’s Choice Indie Erotic Romance Award for her book Serving Pleasure, she gave an inspiring and heartwarming speach, crediting her mother and grandmother for raising her to write such amazing heroines.
Alyssa Cole’s Mixed Signals earned the Futuristic Romance Award, and as she thanked her team and her friends, she gave us all a word of advice: it’s very important to have amazing raptors in your corner.
But Paranormal Worldbuilding Award winner Thea Harrison filled our hearts with joy when she said, “Readers, in the best of romantic traditions, you complete me.”
After the awards ceremony, everyone enjoyed a cocktail reception before heading off to Cirque Du Punk, a steampunk, dieselpunk, cyber punk circus complete with acrobats, jugglers and contortionists.
Everywhere we looked, we were amazed by incredible costumes.
Inside the party, incredible hand-decorated Steampunk hats adorned the tables alongside spinning carousels.
Guests were entertained throughout the evening, with incredible circus acts that defied gravity and boggled the mind.
Jugglers entertained the crowd, sending streaks of neon light through the dark, music-filled ballroom.
We still have one more day to recap of the RT Convention, when we’ll bring readers inside the Giant Book Fair, where over 650 authors met enthusiastic readers and signed stacks of books! If you want to catch up on more of our convention antics, you can find them here. And of course, we’re back home in New York sharing all of your favorite weekly blog posts.
