Self-Published Bestsellers: October 2015

So many self-published titles are released each and every day, it’s hard to know which ones are worth your time — and your cash. As always, I’m here for you, to help make sense of it all. I’ve scoured the bestseller lists to put together some of the top-selling self-published titles that caught my eye this month. Get your TBR list ready!

Kian by Tijan
Genre:
Contemporary Romance
Published: October 2015
The Story: Tijan’s tale has drama galore: Kian was the golden boy everyone loved, until he committed murder to save Jordan. The press got ahold of the story and villified Jordan to the point that she had to go into hiding. Only now Kian is out, and the pull between the two is immense, but can they risk being together? Reviewers praise the twisty premise as well as the well-developed secondary characters.

Rip by Rachel Van Dyken
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Published: October 2015
The Story: The tagline here is, “Welcome to the Russian mafia, where death is your only future.” GOOD, RIGHT?! Van Dyken is a self-publishing pro, so you’re in good hands with this standalone. The specifics of the book are pretty twisty, and I don’t want to spoil, but here are some highlights: Nik is a doctor, an expert in mind control (work with me), Maya is the daughter of a mob boss who is a fan of Nik’s work. They begin an unconventional (major understatment) internship, when Maya begins remembering things. Is she a former patient of Nik’s … ? Major drama ensues.

Lev by Belle Aurora
Genre:
Contemporary Romance
Published: October 2015
The Story: Lev isn’t your typical alphahole, which is nice! Lev has trouble relating to people, but when he sees the struggling Mina, he’s drawn to her. Mina has been living on the streets, and takes Lev’s unconventional offer, as she has no other options. She’s no shrinking violet, though, and reviews rave about the main characters, as well as the plot. (There is mention of the “lick-worthy cover” too, but please don’t lick your e-reader, okay?)

A Mew to Kill by Leighann Dobbs
Genre:
Mystery
Published: March 2015
The Story: If you’d like a break from the darker contemporary romances, this cozy mystery was also a popular self-published title this month. The third in the Mystic Notch series, a ghost is haunting Last Chance Book Store owner Willa. Willa is tasked with finding the amnesiac ghost’s killer, or she’ll be haunted forever, plagued by unwanted advice (this sounds legitimately terrible to me). Willa’s cat, Pandora, has her own adventures to pursue in this charming tale.
