Unbosoming … Kit Rocha

We’ve all been enthralled by the hot, hot, hot dystopian society the ladies known as Kit Rocha write — and they’ve just announced that they’ll be writing New Adult too, as Joelle Knox! As if we couldn’t love them anymore. As we celebrate the Top Pick their latest O’Kane title, Beyond Innocence, earned, and eagerly await their first NA, Anything But Broken, out very soon, we thought we’d check in with the ladies. Luckily, Donna Herron and Bree Bridges agreed to submit to our Unbosoming post, so we could learn more about their awesomeness.

What was the first book you read that meant something to you?

Donna: The Witch of Blackbird Pond. I think it might have been my first romance.

Bree: A Wrinkle in Time. My first crush was on Calvin O’Keefe.

What book do you wish you could live in?

Donna: That’s tricky! I’m gonna go for Pride Prejudice. I’ve always wanted to give someone the cut direct.

Bree: This is probably a reckless answer, but take me away to Anne Bishop’s Black Jewels universe. As long as I can be a powerful enough witch to protect myself at least a little. (Also I want a unicorn friend, please and thank you.)

What book are you an evangelist for?

Donna:  Pretty much anything by Tessa Dare. All the feels!

Bree: I also love Tessa Dare. I think everyone who has ever been a fangirl should read Romancing the Duke!

What trope most mirrors your life?

Donna: IDK, is Dorks in Love a trope? LOL If not, probably the Small-Town Romance — I have actually seen my husband give a car a push-start down a dirt road.

Bree: Probably something New Adult-y. My backstory involves some running away and leaving most of what I own behind to cross the country on a Greyhound bus while I only have $25 in my pocket.

What book has been in your TBR pile the longest?

Donna: The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons. Fifteen years! I’m a little scared of the angst, I admit it.

Bree: Before I came to romance, I didn’t understand what a TBR was. I read everything I bought! Now, uhm… let’s not discuss how many books I have hoarded. (I just pulled a Rose Lerner off my virtual bookshelf that I don’t remember buying — and it’s amazing! Why wasn’t I already reading this?)

If we pulled up next to you at a stoplight, what song would you be shamelessly singing?

Donna:  Blank Space by Taylor Swift. Or Thunder Road by Springsteen.

Bree: Right now? Probably Shut Up and Drive. (I’ve been listening to it a lot lately!)

If your ghost haunted a place, where would it be?

Donna:  A crusty little pub on the Irish seaside. Or an old French Quarter townhouse in New Orleans.

Bree: A library. As long as I could manifest the ability to knock books off the shelf. I would give otherworldly book recs!

Who do you want to hug right now?

Donna: All the people who worked on the Dragon Age video game series.

Bree: Our editor and our proofreader. And Donna. They all have to deal with my creative grammatical inventions.

What do you do when you’re feeling discouraged?

Donna: Take a break. Disconnect until I remember that writing books is all I’ve ever wanted to do.

Bree: Read a Tessa Dare book. Doubt not!

If you could only vacation at one place for the rest of your life, where would it be?

Donna: Probably Florida. There’s so much there! Old cities and lazy beach towns and theme parks. And alligators.

Bree: Maine. I grew up on the coast of Maine, and I miss it a lot. The ocean!

What’s your favorite thing to do with your spare time?

Donna: I have two kids and a serious book jones. I don’t have spare time.

Bree: I like to play video games (mostly Dragon Age right now) and make soap lotions.

Spike or Angel?

Bree: Do I get to cheat? Oz. (I rearranged our names for this question so I could say it first. JUST IN CASE.)
