To “unbosom” is to, per Merriam-Webster, “disclose thoughts or feelings of oneself.” And because we can never know enough about the authors who write our very favorite books, we created our Unbosoming questionaire to find out more, more, more! Today Kristan Higgins, whose RT GOLD Top Pick! On Second Thought is out this week, submitted to our whims.
What was the first book you read that meant something to you?
Aside from everything by Dr. Seuss? S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders leaps to mind. I was 10, and I read it seven times in a row. “Stay gold, Ponyboy.” Blerk! I always tear up.
What book do you wish you could live in?
The Thunder Point series by Robyn Carr. The Oregon coastline, the rainy weather, the little bar on the beach … I’d open a bookstore and make the town complete.
What book are you an evangelist for?
What trope most mirrors your life?
Impulsive marriage. Twenty-five years now, so it seems to be working out.
What book has been in your TBR pile the longest?
Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. I’m afraid it’s going to stay in that pile, too.
If we pulled up next to you at a stoplight, what song would you be shamelessly singing?
“Space Oddity” by David Bowie. “This is Major Tom to Ground Control…!” I freaking love that song.
If your ghost haunted a place, where would it would?
A little beach on Cape Cod called Boat Meadow. I plan to have my ashes illegally scattered there.
Who do you want to hug right now?
My daughter! She’s in Denmark for the semester.
What do you do when you’re feeling discouraged?
Listen to “Space Oddity” by David Bowie.
If you could only vacation at one place for the rest of your life, where would it be?
La Jolla, California. It’s the sea lions, I think. They’re my spirit animals, always napping in the sun …
What’s your favorite thing to do with your spare time?
Read, of course.
What’s the last book that you bought?
Spike or Angel?
I’d have to go with Angel.
