The RT Booklovers Convention is only a few short weeks away! Which means if you’re planning on attending the full week of books, babes (yes, we mean you) and shenanigans, you’ve got some packing to do! With a full schedule of panels, workshops, events — and, of course, parties, one outfit a day may not cut it. So bust out those extra large suitcases, because the RT staff is bringing you their dream outfits for the themed nighttime parties. Today we’re bringing you outfits designed by Associate Editor Jennifer Peters!
If you’re going to a rodeo, you can’t NOT wear cowboy boots — or spurs! And to stay stylish while in your best Western wear, a little fringe never hurt. I paired a vintage fringed collared shirt with a sleek, modern fringed handbag to get my fix. I feel like I could easily wear this to a real rodeo in Dallas, or to my favorite barbecue joint in NYC and fit in well in both places.
Anything goes when it comes to steampunk, and adding in a “Wild West” element makes it that much more fun. I opted for some traditional steampunk pieces — like the ruffled jacket and sleek trousers — and paired them with some bright red cowboy boots (you can’t go wrong with cowboy boots in Texas!) and a matching top hat in lieu of a cowboy hat. It’s comfortable for dancing and partying all night while still being a fun and flirty look that will have all eyes on you.
The RT Awards are the place to be, and it’s the perfect time to don your finest evening wear. While I’m usually into all black, this seems like the perfect occasion for a pop of color, and I love a bright, happy green gown. And if your dress is this bright, everything else can be toned down a bit. I chose some diamond drop earrings (mine are fake) and low silver heels (great for mixing and mingling late into the night without needing to give your feet a break) to complement the dress, and some funky black nails to give the look some edge.
A paranormal party seems like the perfect time to let out my inner goth girl who wears all black. The shiny, steampunk-y skinny pants and collared shirt are comfortable yet sleek, while the accessories add some needed edginess. Meanwhile, the feathered fascinator adds something a bit ethereal to the look, perfect for a party celebrating the supernatural.
