Self-Published Bestsellers: November 2014

So many self-published titles are released each and every day, it’s hard to know which ones are worth your time — and your cash. As always, your RT Web Team is here for you, to help make sense of it all. We’ve scoured the bestseller lists to put together some of the top-selling titles that caught our eye this month. Get your TBR list ready!

His Secretary: Undone by Melanie Marchande
Published: November 2014
Genre: Contemporary Romance
The Story: Though the title may lead you to believe otherwise, especially with the tagline, “A Billionaire Romance,” His Secretary is actually a funny, first-person love story — with no cliffhanger. The set-up: Megan discovers that her sometimes jerky (but obviously super handsome) billionaire boss is actually the author of her favorite romance novels, written using the pseudonym Natalie. And, you guessed it, right? He needs Megan to be Natalie at some book signings. It sounds like a delightful caper, starring a billionaire! And it’s on sale right now! Exclamation points: !!!

Alpha Billionaire 3 by Helen Cooper
November 2014
Genre: Contemporary Romance
The Story: We’re going to start right off by telling you that you’ll want to read Alpha Billionaire 1 and 2 first, otherwise this 102-page, roller-coaster ride may leave you feeling lost. So let’s begin at the beginning, shall we? In book one, Evie agrees to be a “dancer” at a bachelorette party — only as a favor for her best friend. Got it? She’s not really a “dancer.” And when she meets Grant Slate, things get real sexy, real fast. (Cooper is a self-publishing pro and her hero names could honestly not be any better.) In part two, Evie meets Tyler, who warns her off Grant, his mysterious boss. Tyler is also hot, obviously. So in this month’s conclusion, secrets are revealed and Evie makes her choice. But is it the right one? (Emphasis ours. For drama.)

Thirty Three-and-a-half Shenanigans by Denise Grover Swank
November 2014
Genre: Mystery
The Story: Self-published bestsellers don’t belong to mostly bonkers romance any longer, as mysteries are also making a play for some of the action. Such as, this sixth entry in Swank’s Rose Gardner series, which hit both the NYT and USA Today lists this month. In this installment, Rose must help her cousin look for a missing friend. There’s hijinx, of course, and Rose’s ex gets involved in the drama. They even end up at a strip club. (Think they see Evie there? Oh wait, she’s not really a “dancer.”) “Rose rocks!” crows a reviewer. We’re in!

The Holiday Brides Collection by Ginny Baird
Published: February 2013
Contemporary Romance
The Story: Feel like reading some short, sweet holiday stories in between shopping, baking and addressing your photo cards? Apparently you’re not alone, as Baird’s 2013 collection of four novellas hit both the NYT and USA Today lists this month. There’s a struggling mom stuck in a snowstorm. A bachelor dad whose kid is wishing for a mom. A handsome innkeeper — and some seredpity. Basically, if you want to take a break from watching Hallmark movies — though we’re not sure why you would — this book is for you.

Honorable mention: We know we told you about Deborah Bladen’s Ruin parts one, two and three last month, but the contemporary romance serial continues to sell like gangbusters. So if you haven’t yet checked out the story of broken-hearted Kayla and doctor-with-a-dark-past Ben who meet on a plane, you might want to now.
Buy it: Each part goes for 99 cents on Amazon,, Kobo
